On Saturday, May 11, we’ll honor the life and legacy of Catherine (Katy) Ferguson.
On this day we’ll celebrate the installation of a new street sign at the corner of 95th Street and Central Park West in her name and welcome city council members, neighbors, sister churches, and honored guests to share this part of our church’s story.
We’re honored to welcome the Executive Director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency and Matthew 25 advocate, The Reverend Dr. Diane Moffitt as our keynote speaker. Ms. April Haines, of the Metropolitan Opera Chorus, will sing the role of Catherine Ferguson in the original Cantata by Eugene Hancock. Children from the Alexander Robertson School will be contributing projects they’re creating in Mrs. Ferguson’s honor, as well as participating in the Cantata, along with children from the Harlem School of the Arts.
The more we learn, the more we appreciate the amazing work Mrs. Ferguson did to serve orphans and children throughout her life. All are invited to participate in whatever way possible. Judith Thatcher is working with Eunjung Ahn to organize a performance of the cantata written by organist Eugene Hancock, with lyrics by members of the Second Presbyterian Congregation in the early 1990s.

With thanks to the Hospitality Team, Judith Thatcher, Nancy Hughes, and Eunjung Ahn, along with Keyarrah Bell-Flynn of the Alexander Robertson School, Charmaine Massiah of the Presbytery of New York City Justice Committee and Rev. Dr. Derrick McQueen of St. James Presbyterian in Harlem. for the work they’ve already done, we want to invite everyone to join in as you feel inspired.
We continue to welcome your energy, talents, and ideas to the planning of this special event, bringing together our past and present, and pointing toward the future. Contact pastorthia2ndpresbyterian@gmail.comjthatcher1@nyc.rr.com or ejspcmusic@gmail.com to join the fun!
