New Sanctuary has been accompanying a young man who is being detained under threat of deportation in Western New York State. Some of us have attended his hearings online. The next hearing for Harpreet Singh Friday, August 2 at 10:00 am, and your presence can make a difference! The judge plans to make a decision at this next hearing.
Harpreet continues to be held in ICE detention, while his wife and newborn (whom he has yet to see) await a decision on whether he may be deported. In the last hearing, the government’s attorney cross-examined Harpreet about the violence he experienced in the current political climate in his native India. Despite records showing that he was treated for injuries he received on two separate occasions, once when he was brought to the hospital unconscious and admitted from the ER to the hospital for multiple days, the prosecutor asked for names of emergency room doctors and staff as a way of questioning the veracity of his account.
